Samit's out - run out for 95. Not quick enough between the wickets, the spare tyre strikes again!
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
I wonder which team is going to be last off the mark. With KKR winning today, it only leaves Kings XI and Rajasthan Royal pointless and Warney and his crew will have the chance to put that right later today.
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
Oueeeeeee. Nice. The game has been called off - Kolkata win by 11 runs on Duckworth Lewis.

nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Sourav Ganguly leading his team to victory

(Doesn't matter who's captain, Sourav's the Dada)
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Whilst everyone's been ogling at the lovely new lady in Yuvraj's life, I'm sorry to inform you that the game's been cancelled at Kolkata are walking away victorious courtesy of Mr Duckworth and Mademe Lewis. They win by 11 runs. May be time to get the Kings XI were robbed picture again
teej101 (21 Apr 2009):
Yuvraj is certainly carrying a lot on his shoulders. He also has his hands full too, with a new lovely

grin like a cheshire cat there big guy
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Strange to have both Sangakkara and Jayawardene in the same side. I see them both as anchors rather than beefters. And Brett Lee's not playing this game either. Without him, their bowling looks quite weak too.
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
Ah, yeah, you're right. In Dubai I think. It might be too late for the Kings XI by the time they get back... their batting doesn't look strong enough. Yuvraj has a lot on his shoulders - Sangakarra and Jayawardene are obviously quality, but they're not going to score fifty in 20 balls.
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Isn't there a one-day series against Pakistan or some such? Maybe they are out for that. I imagine that they'll be back at some point.
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
Why are Marsh and Pomersbach missing for KXIP? Are they going to be out for the whole tournie?
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
Maybe, maybe. Although Ramesh Powar is doing ok. Rumour has it Dwayne Leverock will be signed by Deccan next year too
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
@mattroberts, Didn't Samit Patel get ignored at the IPL Auction. Was that due to his waistline too?
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
In other news Samunfit Patel is 57* for Notts after being promoted to no 3. Is he after that spare place in the test side? Lendl Simmons is going well for the Windies, looks like he's going to be a player.
mattroberts (21 Apr 2009):
It's raining now. The Knight Riders are 79/1 from 9.2. Bopara had just come on... the Englishman brings the English weather
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Errm, Gayle is doing a Michael Knight and taking Punjab out to task. Ouch, SIXES and FOURS galore from Gayle and a little bit from McCullum too. It's 44 for no wicket after 4.3 overs. The well-known Noname Abdulla will be rueing dropping Gayle in the second over
nshah (21 Apr 2009):
Nope, I was wrong, Dinda removed Kohli. Jayawardene saw Kings through to the end with some lusty blows, including a SIX off the aforementioned Dinda. So Kings post a score of 158 for 6 off the 20 overs. Could be a tight one.

The second instalment of the Indian Premier League, the explosive Twenty20 competition. Last year's IPL brought us controversy, Bollywood glamour, grit and all out fisticuffs. More of the same this year please.
After reachings the semis last year, Kings XI are a team that should not be overlooked. Partially owned by the glamorous Preity Zinta and a collection other less glamorous people, they will do well to repeat last year's success. The bowling looks a little weak with Brett Lee just returning from injury and Sreesanth still recovering from being on the wrong end of Harbhajan's wrath. Fortunately, he has recovered sufficiently to be present at this year's tournament as the team motivator. Star man Yuvraj Singh will be feeling the pressure to perform as batsman after having a less than exemplary showing last year. Tom Moody will again be taking the position of coach, with other team members including last year's top scorer Shaun Marsh.
Kolkata, owned by ShahRukh Khan, coached by John Buchanan and captained by the icon Sourav Ganguly (and maybe others) are a team of personalities. The team started with a bang last year, but wilted in the latter stages of the tournament. There have been all sorts of controversies in the build up to the start of IPL 2009, including John Buchanan's new masterplan of multiple captains, ShahRukh Khan's public attack on India's finest Sunny Gavaskar and Sourav's public admissions of not knowing what anybody's talking about. Unless everybody starts working together, another low finish looks on the cards. Still, there's always the possibility of ShahRuhk taking his top off, even if the chances of Sourav baring himself again seem slim. Key personnel include Ishant Sharma and the firecracker Brendon McCullum.
