Lot to think about now for Kolkata, very disappointing result. The batsmen failed, and no doubt will be introspecting tonight
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
Deccan now 100/2 after 13 overs, oh and Gibbs hits a four to finish the game. Gibbs has had a good game, Sharma too
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
Agarkar got destroyed there, wow. 17 runs from the over. At the half way point Deccan are 69/2, this game looks to be over
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
Ganguly is bringing himself on - that's the Ganguly who takes a match by the scruff of the neck
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
Deccan 38/2 after 7 overs, this match is definitely not dead yet, a couple more wickets and things could be looking up for Kolkata
nshah (19 Apr 2009):
Kolkata do make it over the hundred barrier before being skittled by Deccan. 101 off 19.4 overs. It's going to be a tough one to defend, especially if Gilchrist and Gibbs hit it off.
nshah (19 Apr 2009):
That was a good counter-attacking innings from Brad Hodge. English fans might remember him from his brilliant time at Lancashire. He put many a county bowler to the sword. Unlucky really not to have played more international cricket. KKR 72 for 6
nshah (19 Apr 2009):
This is a right old disaster for Kolkata. They'll do well to get to a hundred and give their bowlers something to defend. There doesn't seem to be much harmony in that KKR changing room either.
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
Great over by Styris, Kolkata in big trouble now - 29/3 at the half way point
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
27/3 after 9 overs - Nothing more to add really. Bowlers keeping it really tight, so well done Ojha, Singh and Fiddy Edwards
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
After 7 overs it's 23/3. Harmeet Singh is coming on, this match needs some runs, but it looks like the batsmen are just happy to keep the wickets intact
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
15/2 after 5 overs. Ganguly is playing himself in nicely - if he was playing a test match that is
teej101 (19 Apr 2009):
After 4 overs Kolkata are 12/2, Not good at all. Gayle and Mcullum are out too, big scalps

The second instalment of the Indian Premier League, the explosive Twenty20 competition. Last year's IPL brought us controversy, Bollywood glamour, grit and all out fisticuffs. More of the same this year please.
What can you say about Deccan Chargers? Disaster is probably the most apt description. Owned by the Deccan Chronicle, the team must be looking to make more positive headlines this year. It was the revolving door of the IPL last year, with heads rolling here and there and sackings a plenty. The new guy in charge this year is Darren Lehman and he'll be teaming up with captain Adam Gilchrist to try and recoup some pride. But already things are looking a bit shaky, with VVS Laxman supposedly throwing his toys out the pram due to a lack of respect, Shahid Afridi getting fired for having no respect for anyone and no one having a clue what's going on. Make sense? They certainly don't.
Kolkata, owned by ShahRukh Khan, coached by John Buchanan and captained by the icon Sourav Ganguly (and maybe others) are a team of personalities. The team started with a bang last year, but wilted in the latter stages of the tournament. There have been all sorts of controversies in the build up to the start of IPL 2009, including John Buchanan's new masterplan of multiple captains, ShahRukh Khan's public attack on India's finest Sunny Gavaskar and Sourav's public admissions of not knowing what anybody's talking about. Unless everybody starts working together, another low finish looks on the cards. Still, there's always the possibility of ShahRuhk taking his top off, even if the chances of Sourav baring himself again seem slim. Key personnel include Ishant Sharma and the firecracker Brendon McCullum.
